Gylfi Sigurdsson heaps praise on Everton striker amid recent progress

Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has praised the progress of Dominic Calvert-Lewin over the past few months with the club. The 22-year-old has become the Toffees’ undisputed choice to lead the line during the backend of the season and he has recently been influential in the club’s upturn in league form.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo, Sigurdsson admitted that he has been impressed with Calvert-Lewin, who has proved a thorn to the opposition defence in recent months, he said: “Yeah, he’s fantastic. His physical ability is fantastic for such a good player. He’s got an incredible leap, I think he can jump as high as anyone! He’s fit and very strong, quick as well, and he makes it really hard for defenders to deal with him. He’s always learning, but he’s been playing really well over the past couple of months. Hopefully, he can keep working hard, keep fit and stay in the side.”

Calvert-Lewin has not been scoring regularly for the Merseyside outfit this term but he has been impressive with his movement and holding attributes playing as the lone marksman. In the recent league clash against Manchester United, the young Englishman produced another top performance upfront on his own and he made his mark with an assist during a comfortable 4-0 triumph for the club.

The Toffees are currently one point behind the seventh position on the table and manager Marco Silva will be hoping that the club can continue the good run of form to finish as the best of the rest. At present, the seventh spot does not offer a route to the Europa League, but that could change, should Manchester City get the better of Watford during next month’s FA Cup final. Coincidentally, the Hornets are presently occupying the position with 50 points on the board.
