WALCOTT ON TARGET IN PRESEASON GAME

Southampton forward Theo Walcott scored one of the goals as the Saints secured an emphatic win over Welsh team Cardiff City in a preseason game. Southampton and Cardiff City are preparing for the new Premier League campaign and the new English Championship campaign respectively. The two teams stepped up their preparations by facing each other in a friendly clash played at the Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff, Wales last week.

Fans were back at the Cardiff City Stadium to witness the friendly match between Cardiff City and the Saints. It was the first time in over a year that fans would be back at the stadium. The last time fans were at the match venue was in February 2020.

Cardiff City would be in action later this week when the new English Championship campaign starts on Saturday, while theSaints have to wait till next week for the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Theo Walcott was the recipient of the first goal in the 4-0 thumping of Cardiff City. Southampton had to wait for 38 minutes before breaking the deadlock against their hosts thanks to England international Walcott. Theo Walcott scored the opening goal off the assist from Republic of Ireland striker Michael Obafemi thereby giving his team a slim 1-0 win at the half-time interval.

Malian winger Moussa Djenepo came on as an half-time substitute and it took him just four minutes to double the lead for Southampton. Scotland international Che Adams then hit a brace in the final quarter of the game to record the comprehensive win.

Che Adams scored the third goal of the game for the Saints midway into the second half to put the game out of the hosts’ reach. He completed his brace six minutes from time thus making the scoreline a convincing one.
