Thomas Vermaelen wants to put his injury riddled past behind him

The 29 year old Belgium defender Thomas Vermaelen is a player who has consistently struggled with injuries which has left him out of action for over 6 months. During his time performing for Arsenal he has been injured as well as when playing for his national side Belgium. Injuries is something that has always affected the veteran defender but now that he is fully recovered and is starting a new career with Barcelona, Vermaelen is hoping that injuries won’t continue to hamper his playing time in the pitch.

‘’I was very excited when I arrived at Barcelona but physically not good. I asked advice from many experts. I wanted to avoid surgery but it wasn’t to be. I couldn’t get any rhythm or form. I had an operation, recovered well and played. That was my particular treble, my great victory’’

Vermaelen made his move from Arsenal to Barcelona on August of 2014 but after only a few months of having arrived to the Spanish club, the veteran defender had to go under the knife as he sustained a surgery which was going to help him heal from a hamstring injury which he was consistently struggling with.

It wasn’t until May 23rd of 2015 when Vermaelen could make his official debut in a competitive match for Barcelona as he was featured in the match that his club faced against Deportivo La Coruña.

The start of Vermaelen’s career in Barcelona has been an underwhelming but this is mostly due to the injuries which continues to affect the player but now that he is recovered from surgery and has already made appearances for the Spanish club in this new season, the Belgium defender is hoping and expecting to see his career spark back into life.
