STILL IN IT

Arsenal star Theo Walcott has stated that the club still remains the title race despite the 1-0 defeat against nemesis Stoke city in the Premier league. Arsenal have managed just one win in their last seven visits to the Britannia stadium and this poor run continued after they lost 1-0 to Mark Hughes’ team. This allowed the likes of Chelsea and Manchester city to extend their advantage in the table. Arsenal had a comfortable five-point lead over Chelsea and Manchester city during the months of January, but it has now been converted into a four-point deficit.

Wenger’s problem has been compounded by the fact that players like Theo Walcott have been ruled out for the rest of the season with major injuries. Walcott recently signed a new contract with Arsenal, while he was one of the club’s best players last season with numerous goals. However, he has been unable to build on that success, as he has been injured more often than not this campaign. Walcott, though, says that there will still be opportunities for Arsenal to go top of the table since the league is extremely strong and that top teams are struggling against bottom clubs as well.

Arsenal’s season has been hampered by injuries to key players like Walcott and Ramsey. The latter has not played since the end of December.

“That’s the mad thing about the Premier League this year, that’s why it’s the best in the world. You can’t really call any game. Everyone likes to play against the big teams and there is always a result that sort of tricks everyone. But like I say I think there is going to be plenty of ups and downs still in this title race and I’m sure it’s not the last result where we are going to have a bad one. So it’ll be fun,” said Walcott.
