NEW CONTRACT AGREED

After being linked with several months in the last few months, the 23-year-old England winger Theo Walcott has finally agreed to sign a new contract with Arsenal. The former Southampton star was out of contract at the end of the season, while he was free to discuss terms with foreign clubs over the last couple of weeks. Arsenal have lost several high profile players like Matthew Flamini in recent years due to their contracts coming to an end. They have also sold several high profile players like Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie after failing to agree to new deals.

Hence, Walcott signing a new contract comes as a major boost for Arsene Wenger in the hope of finishing in the top four this season. The player has now signed a new three and a half year deal worth around £ 100,000 per week. Arsenal were willing to offer only £ 75,000 per week up until now, but they have decided to offer the player his demands. Walcott has been one of the best players for Arsenal this season. He has been extremely good in front of goal, and he has been picked as the striker by Wenger in recent weeks. Walcott has said that he never wanted to leave Arsenal.

“I am very pleased. For the last three games before [the Chelsea match] it was sort of done, but it was on my mind and had been for a long time because it was so close. It is difficult to play and block out that side of it, but I tried to do the best I could and hopefully everyone was happy with what I did. I always wanted to stay and I am happy that myself and the club have come to an agreement. There has been so much speculation for so long,” said Walcott.
